So you've been promoted to a new management role: Congratulations! As a supervisor, you're now accountable for employee retention, achieving company goals, hiring new employees, executing action plans, and most of all being effective at managing people through earning respect and gaining leadership skills.

So many managers are forced to learn to manage a team through a trial and error approach. This leads to many potential pitfalls and mistakes.

Every manager messes up now and then because, in most cases — they're human. (Honestly, some we're still not sure about.) Good managers respond with grace and professionalism and immediately put plans in place to correct the mistake. Unfortunately, many new managers don't. If you're a new manager just starting, you often don't have the experience to do the same thing. And there are certain mistakes almost every new manager makes. So how do you avoid them?

Fortunately, in this podcast, I share the most common mistakes new managers make and the steps you can take to work your way around them.

To start out on the right foot in your new leadership role,  you need to know many things you must do but also what NOT to do.

You undoubtedly wouldn't be in this new management position if you didn't have great skills going for you already. To strengthen your leadership aptitude, avoid making any of these common big mistakes new managers make.

Research conducted by CEB shows that 60 percent of new managers fail in the first 24 months of their new position. Let's make sure that you don't fall into that category!

The main reason why most new managers fail is that they were never properly trained to manage.
