Achieving great results requires more than great ideas, goals, and strategies. It requires creating precise action and project plans (collectively referred to as Action Plans from here on out) and managing them to achieve the desired results. These Action Plans are written plans that show what needs to be done to achieve a specific goal.

One thing that separates most managers is that they tend to get things done in a "seat of the pants" manner. In contrast, Results Driven Managers have the habit of creating and managing Action Plans with disciplined follow-through and timely adjustments that bring about excellent results.

These Action Plans need to be developed and managed by managers at all levels of an organization, whether they impact the entire organization or just a team, a department, or a division. As a manager, you may be assigned a specific Action Plan. In most cases, however, you will be involved in all the steps from creating to making Action Plans succeed for your areas of management responsibility. I refer to this Action Plan responsibility as the Responsible Party for an Action Plan. Each Action Plan will have tactics, which collectively need to bring about the Action Plan's success. You will be responsible for carrying out the tactics yourself or delegating this task to your direct reports (your Tactic Implementers) and managing them through it.
